Moong Dal South Indian Khichdi


Ingredients

Moong dal 1/2 cup
rice 1 cup
salt to taste
10 peppercorn
2 teaspoon jeera
8-10 curry leaves
5-6 tablespoon Ghee and Little extra just incase needed

Method

Roast the moong dal until slightly roasted but not browned. Then wash the dal and pour in about 3 cups water and keep on medium flame and begin cooking. while half done wash the rice and add into the cooking dal, along with peppercorn and salt. Cook until rice is done and dal is cooked well, add water 1 cup at a time as necessary for the cooking.
In a small pan heat the ghee and add jeera and then curry leaves and take off the heat and pour over the dal and rice mixture. 
Boil for a few minutes until you see the dal is emulsified with the ghee and if not then you need to add some extra ghee.
Once you are satisfied with the consistency take off heat and serve with a spicy chutney.
